Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land, where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true, oh why
[Verse 2]
There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong wind of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun, where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear
[Bridge]
We're lost in a cloud with too much rain
We're trapped in a world that's troubled with pain
But as long as a man has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly (He can fly)
[Verse 3]
Deep in my heart, there's a trembling question
Still, I am sure that the answer's… answer's gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle, yeah
And while I can think, while I can talk, while I can stand, while I can walk
While I can dream, oh, please let my dream come true, oh, right now
[Outro]
Let it come true right now
Oh, yeah
After seeing the 2022 Elvis movie, I realized how much they nailed this scene. This is amazing
Ha
Tbh
God yes
@eda handan kocanoglu ?
Amen to that!??????
Went into the Elvis movie knowing he was the guy who sang Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock. This scene absolutely floored me. I had no idea Elvis’s later music was so emotional, so beautiful. 50 years later, Elvis is still making new fans, and I’m happy to say I’m one of them.
Welcome to the club!

Yep this was the same for me. The movie was fantastic and i think this was the song that made me go “Why the heck did i not listen to Elvis sooner?!”
Now im on an Elvis music binge
I think this must be his best recorded performance. He didn’t care about hitting the notes, just pure emotions. Incredible.
@m brights Well said, and very true.
@Max Cruise Garage The way Elvis sang this is actually correct in the blues/gospel music world which is Elvis’ natural background and foundation. Go to a southern Baptist church on Sunday and listen to them sing…… no one has a formal music degree from Juliard yet the voices are all beautiful and soar to the heavens.
@Adam Garrett Yes, Black Culture influenced Elvis. Elvis grew up very poor with the Black Culture, and Elvis was very Religious, and a Southern Christian, and influence by Black Christian Culture. Happy young Americans are learning the truth. Because, many born Southerners were not racist. Lynyrd Skynyrd grew up
Poor in Alabama with the Black Culture. And his mentor was a Black Man who Sang on the Street who sang Blues. If you listen to Ronnie Van Zant’s songs he wrote and music you will learn. Also, the Allman Brothers were influenced by the Black Culture and Music. All Southern Rock Bands were influenced by Black Culture. And none of them were racist. I grew up in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and aware of the truth. I am blessed to have grown up with the best musicians ever, and attended their concerts. We were not racist, we believed in Love and Peace and Southern Rock and Roll, and Elvis.
@A S Elvis did not take away from him. He was Elvis’s mentor. Elvis grew up Poor with the Black Culture. There would not be Rock and Rock today, without the Black Culture. Mick Jagger with The Rolling Stones, and other British and American Rock and Roll Bands were influenced by the Black Culture Music, Blues, Jazz, etc. The 50’s & 60’s Motown, Soul, & R&B was the top music on the charts by Black Artist. The Temptations, The Supremes, James Brown, and the list goes on. I grew up in those days. American Bandstand, and Soul Train was on TV every Saturday with Black and White teenagers dancing to the hit music. We were not racist, as the Politicians and MSM want the young generation to believe today. We never heard the word Racist in those days or spoke the words.
I am Black American born 69 and as a teenager, I was a diehard fan!!! I was told by my Aunt that he was racist, so I loved him in silence…after seeing the movie, I am so grateful, that the truth about his true soul was revealed and I weeped for what happened to him…HE WAS THE KING and I will love him out loud forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ???
I saw Elvis when I was 16 at the Las Vegas Hilton! Pure Magic!
Samsung has an awesome Christmas commercial featuring “If I can dream!”
Elvis grew up in the ghetto who championed the black community. They wasn’t going to let his beautiful black backup singers ride in the parade with Elvis and Elvia said no way in Hell! You Gove those girls star treatment! Thank you for what you posted
It was said that MLK was his friend and he was told not to sing this song three weeks after his assassination due to fear of more riots. Elvis defied them and sung it as a tribute to MLK his friend.
How can anyone say Elvis was racist? His personal cook was black! Mary Jenkins was Elvis’ cook for fourteen years beginning in 1963 up until his death. Elvis even bought her a house. Obviously, somebody talking about Elvis who doesn’t have a clue to who the real Elvis was in life.
@sandyRndisco1 it’s cause they all jealous
Maybe one of the mosts power performances in all time.
Nobody!!!! Nobody!!! Will ever beat Elvis voice ?
True
Exactly
Noelia Flores…
I 2nd that emotion…
I concur! Elvis was a shining star that outshined them all.
This guy was truly a king
Those notes and range ?
His back up singers describe his voice as “other worldly” they say it was even better than what was recorded. He was truly a gift from God.
Reduced to tears by this.
Still the Greatest
Greatest performer of all times! Never left the country! Could you ever imagine if he did a world tour!
He did leave the country, just not on a tour of music.
He’s a really great singer, I love his voice and melodies his lyrics are always on point, he will forever be missed, how long have you been a fan??
This song almost made me cry in the movie theater. The first half of the movie was ok but from this scene on it was amazing.
I don’t even know Elvis has this beautiful song until I watched the movie. This song clicked and I reminded myself to search what this song is about.. And after learning about how this song came about.. It’s much more impactful! It’s 2022 and heading to 2023, yet, we still face many questions from what this song is addressing. I can never get bored of this song because it has so much passion!
Next to this song is Memories, a very tender beautiful song that can make you sad while thinking of Elvis. The writer of this song, Mack Davies, sang it as a tribute to Elvis, check it out.
nobody better, he was the king and will always be
This has become one of my new favorite live performances. Wish I was alive to witness the phenomenon that was Elvis….while the movie was incredible, I’m sure it doesn’t capture the feeling of actually being there.
I feel the same exact way!!!
@Gina Dsame
What a performance. He really did push the vocals and was pitch perfect, incredible.

Let us all bask in The King’s finest moment! He was truly at his very best here.
I love Elvis , His voice is absolutely the best ever and in this song it’s the epitome of “Nailed It” the way he projects that gritty yet man, I just can’t describe it , I start everyday out with some Elvis upbeat songs and when I feel like I need that extra, I will end my days with some of his gospel music, He’ll never be topped as someone put it Never
