LYRICS:

1. Oh! I'd like to go back to that Old Country Church,
And to hear the songs of praise. (songs of praise)
How the people would sing, it would make the Heavens ring,
At that Old (at that Old) Country Church.
CHORUS 1:

Shall we gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river.
Gather with the saints at the river that flows by the throne of God.

2. Oh, I'll never forget at that Old Country Church,
how the glory of the Lord came down. (It came down)
And the children would smile, as they shouted down the aisle,
Of that Old (of that Old) Country Church.

CHORUS 2:

In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.
In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.

3. Then on Sunday to see all my friends so dear to me
At that Old Country Church. (Country Church)
When it came time for prayer, ev'rybody would be there
At that Old (at that Old) Country Church.

CHORUS 3:

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms.
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the Everlasting Arms.

4. Now the years have gone by and so many have died,
At that Old— Country Church (Country Church)
But they're on the other shore, and they'll sing forevermore,
As they did at that Old Country Church.

CHORUS 4:

I'm redeemed by love divine. Glory, glory, Christ is mine.
All to Him I now resign. I have been redeemed.

You can’t help but sing along as you watch the happy faces singing praises to our Lord and our ability to worship as we please. Amen!

+Schmuelsons Reidl My condolences for your loss. My parents are both gone, but definitely not forgotten. I’m pleased that you spend so much time with him before he passed. I wish I would have spent more time with my parents than I did. Different time and circumstances though. I was fresh home from Vietnam and the Army when Dad left us, because of his second ( and fatal ) bout with cancer. Before he contracted cancer the 2nd time, is when I could have spent time with him, getting to know him better and seeing if I could get him to talk about his time in the service, maybe do some fishing & hunting with him, but I didn’t. After Vietnam, I became a drunk and druggie, for many reasons, that I needn’t go into. Sure wish I could go back in time! Thanks for your nice reply. God Bless and be with you and your family.

@TattooedEagle Thanks for your kind words. You’ve been encouraging too. I guess this song describes what people says that in dying we steps into eternity. Nothing is more comforting as a fight fought well to the end. Surely we’ll meet them all ‘over yonder’, happy and joyful just like at that old country church, even better. God bless you and your family too.

  2. How can you not love this form of worship. I am so grateful to all the Gaither crew who always bring a smile to my face, a tapping to my feet and a warming of my heart. The Lord bless you one and all.  Thank you for posting these.

Thank you so much for sharing. Joy fills me as I listen to and watch my brothers and sisters in Christ praising the Lord. You can see life and freedom that Christ brings us. I used to be a Muslim all my life but the Lord saved me and led me out of death into life. I am so grateful to Him for my salvation and for my brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ. God bless you.

  4. Jane Winstead

Such a blessing to be able to listen to these hymns that are very seldom sung in church services today.

    1. Richard Cline

Jane Winstead, you are so right! A minor few still sing the old songs but now it’s all Praise and Worship Choruses and rock bands. Some churches are nothing more than Las Vegas shows complete with full orchestras minus the alcohol.

  5. I love worship like this. it makes me want to jump and sing to my Lord. This is how my church is. I love being a southern Baptist. Amen!!!!

  6. Celine Clairoux

I love this – this is what I call love, life and feeling full of life and promise – Keep this going it’s awesome!

  7. At about the 1:44 mark you have three of the greatest bass singers ever on the screen together. Rex Nelon, George Younce and JD Sumner. My oh my what a treat to hear them together on this song.

  8. Harold Cale

What a blessing to hear southern gospel music, thank you for sharing indeed. God Bless !

  9. Thiago Magno

It is impossible not to be infected with joy by these brothers singing to the Lord! It is very exciting … It invigorates the soul! Surely God rejoiced in Heaven with this hymn of praise! Amen. Anyone enjoying this sound in 2020?

On 13 Dec. at 2: 47, had a bad dream and woke up but this very music takes away my worries. The more I listen the more I thirst for it. God bless you all??????
