Lyrics:
Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.

All my memories gather round her, miner's lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.

    1. Dia agus Tír ??

@J Carey this is most certainly country music. The melody, the guitar, the moonshine references and obviously the song title

    2. When did they move the Blue Ridge mountains and Shanandoah river to West Virginia from Virginia?

Listening to this with an 81 yr old woman from West Virginia. She has Alzheimer’s and when this song played she lit up like never before. Thank you.

@salazam you’re pitiful and I actually feel bad for you. Attention for a comment I made 3 years ago on a John Denver song? Hun. I take care of people who are elderly or have disabilities. It’s my profession. It’s not something someone glamorizes. It was a happy moment I shared.
      Go find a happy moment.

@salazam man you don’t have any good thing to said? this comment make me feel wholesome after 1 year of my grandma gone so be more respect

  2. That Western US Folk music sound! Timeless! John Denver was / is one of the great musicians of all time!

    1. West? Southern US. West Virginia is in the south but it ain’t even that southern but this song gives it a pass. Love my WV brothers.

Just found out this song for about 3 years ago but never get bored of it. This song really brings me to the 60’s. This is such a masterpiece. R.I.P John ??

I ain’t from the US, but everytime I listen to this song, I get emotional, as it reminds me of my beloved sister that passed away last year, it also reminds me of the days where I felt so weak, that I felt calling it the quits, and throwing in the towel

  6. my grandpa was from west Virginia, this was his favorite song. he died a year before I was born, but as he was on his death bed, he told my mom to look at the wall of the hospital room and she did, and he said look, aren’t those mountains beautiful. Songs mean more than just noise.

I actually had the pleasure to see the mountains of West Verginia; It was my first time actually seeing something resembling a ‘mountain range’, and cruising up the winding mountain roads, I couldn’t help but stop at a couple spots just to enjoy the view and take some pictures.

This one’s for you Jeffrey. I miss how we used to sing this in class and on our bike rides together. I miss you man. It’s been a long 2 and a half years and I’m definitely poorer for not being with you through them. I hope you’re happy brother. I miss you and I love you, always.
