  1. I can’t help but cry when I hear this song… My grandfather was the greatest man I ever knew… he was my best friend. Even when he got sick I never really believed that he would die… because I truly did think that he walked on water. I spent every second with him in the hospice when the doctors gave up… I wanted to say so much… but neither one of us could say a single word. I’d give anything to have one more day to say the things that I couldn’t. I held his hand and cried like a child as he took his last breath… I said it was ok for him to let go…but everything inside of me was begging him not to. I HATE that death is such a big part of life… I miss my friend more than words could ever express…

I couldn’t disagree with you on your statement unfortunately I’ve lost both of my parents like you said I would give ANYTHING just to be able to give them longest hug I could give
      STAY STRONG

Played this song at my dad’s funeral. I too was in denial even when hospice took over. I was in denial at the funeral. I told my dad he could let go, I’d be ok. He didn’t want to. As long as my dad was alive I never had to worry about anything. Without him it’s scary. I no longer have that sense of security that no matter what my dad would be there 4 me.

My grandpa passed away the 2nd of July 2022 he was 80 and he had dementia so he couldn’t recognize any of us even me and to this day even though he’s not in any pain I miss him

I’m so sorry! ? time only dulls the pain a little….it’s always there though! ? I hope you see him again!

My DaD decided to lose me lost in a bootle, work and smoke. My mom’s Dad became my father figure number 1 as I was his num 1. I was with him when he died. He just go tired of living (RIP)(93 yo) he was only a phone cali away. we spent alot of time together

  2. Randy’s songs and voice is so relatable and touches your heart. ?? I wish country music was still like this.

    1. Randy began my love affair with country music. I remember seeing him on the CMAs and that was that! ??????

  3. “I loved him and he loved me
And lord, I cried the day he died” that part gets me every time.?

Think it would be even harder to lose your mom! Especially if you are a girl. You can get her wisdom on things you wouldn’t talk to your dad about. Some things are just between females! Not saying I didn’t have great relationship with my dad, after all I was the only girl with 3 brothers; but some things are just girl talk?

I get tears in my eyes whenever I hear this song. My grandfather raised me from an infant to age 14. Iloved him so much and yes, how I cried the day HE died. For me, he DID walk on water!

    1. For me it was grandma. She took me after my mom was shot by my dads police partner accidentally. I guess. But dad took comfort in the bottle. My grandmother died when I was 12. My husband died when our kids were 5 years old an son 6 months old. I was 10 months old when mom died But I still miss my grandmother im 60 now. Every one in my family is dead now. I can’t believe God has kept this sinner alive this long. I guess he wants me here but still can’t figure out why? Lol.

My dad’s job keep him away, so my grandpa technically raised me. Don’t get me wrong my dad is a great dad, but my grandpa was my best friend. I cried when I found out he died, and I’m a great big man’s man.

Omg, I’m proud of him that he got THROUGH IT!! ? Don’t think I would have/could have!! ?

    2. Comfortablynumb

Btw….. did u HAPPEN 2 record it? Just curious. Only because it’d be a nice thing for you (and your son) to have in the years to come!

Makes me teary eyed every time I hear it. My Grandpop passed 58 years ago when I was 11 and I miss him every day.

    1. I miss my granddad a lot. He died in 1993. We watched shows like pro wrestling, Gunsmoke, Little House On The Prairie, The Waltons and Roy Rogers movies together. Now life doesn’t seem as good as those memories are to me.

    2. Well he’s always going to be by your side no matter if he gone, but he’s always going to be your side because he’s there and he’s not going to leave your side

I’ve known this song for over 30 years, and the older I’ve gotten, the harder it’s become to not tear up when I sing this song. Hold to your loved ones, and tell them you love them every chance you get!

I sang this song at our family reunion and several people were crying. When I was done , everyone wanted to know who sang the song and I told them, ” one of the best country and western artists Randy Travis!”

I’ve been listening to Randy Travis since I was a little girl but only just a couple years ago did I watch this video and realize the words to this song. Boy, it really broke me down in tears. I didn’t have a granddaddy like this but I had a great grandma that I was very close to, I miss her so much everyday!!

Makes me miss my Granddaddy so so much. November will make 24 years since I seen him take his last breath. There was a sign of peace come over his face as he looked straight into mine. I’ll never forget that look, i was only 13 but I’ll never forget.

  12. J.H. CUSTOMS

If there ever was a CB radio or a phone to heaven id love to talk to all my grandparents
